On 5 May 2017 the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath announced that the Senior Judge Administrator, Justice John Byrne AO RFD, will retire in August after a career on the bench spanning 28 years.

Justice Byrne was called to the Bar in 1972 and took silk in 1982. His Honour was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1989. In 2007 he was appointed Senior Judge Administrator.

His Honour is a Life Member of the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration and an Officer of the Order of Australia.

He has also served as a member of the Council of the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration and also chaired the advisory committee to establish the Law School at Griffith University.

A funeral was held on 18 May 2017 for Mr Frank Wilkie, a longstanding and well respected member of the Bar. Mr Wilkie was called to the Bar on 23 October 1973.
