Keeping up with the law

For busy practitioners, keeping up with developments in the law can be a real challenge.  Fortunately, there are a number of tools available via the Supreme Court Library website designed to provide regular updates on new caselaw, legislation and research materials, as they are released.

Our Queensland Legal Updater bulletin is a free weekly e-newsletter service offering coverage of important decisions, legislation, practice directions, as well as media releases, legal conferences and events.  Practitioners can subscribe via the Library’s website (www.sclqld.org.au/information-services/qld-legal-updater) to receive an email every Monday, recapping the legal developments of the past week.  Its clear layout and brief summaries make it easy to review, with the option to link through to the full text of relevant documents as desired.  The Queensland Legal Updater also features details of new Library resources and forthcoming events, as well as a selective review of the latest journal literature.

Those with a particular interest in keeping up with Queensland decisions as they are handed down may find our Caselaw RSS feed a useful tool.  The feed link can be found on our Caselaw page (www.sclqld.org.au/caselaw) or via the Library catalogue Feeds page (www.catalogue.sclqld.org.au/feeds), which offers a number of other useful feeds, including a list of new books and other materials purchased by the Library.

Professional development is another area of importance for legal practitioners.  Our online conference and events calendar (www.sclqld.org.au/news-and-events/forthcoming-events/) provides a simple and convenient means of keeping up with the numerous activities on offer.  The calendar is designed to consolidate a wide range of activities for legal practitioners, with a filter tool that allows users to browse results by location and date.
