Your Library is Open

As we open to 2014, the Supreme Court Library is looking forward to a year of improved service delivery and enhancing your access to our legal collections. Your Library is open and we welcome your presence!

The Library is pleased to announce that from 1 January 2014, all decisions of the Industrial Court of Queensland, the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, and the Industrial Registrar will be published on the Supreme Court Library website. The decisions can be accessed via the Library’s free caselaw database or via QLI Online.

We also have a number of important projects planned for the coming year, including the launch of our new look website and an associated site for the Sir Harry Gibbs Legal Heritage Centre in March.  We are also carefully planning for the redevelopment of our online caselaw service, which already includes more than 27,000 full-text decisions from the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts, as well as QCAT and a number of other tribunals and commissions. The new service will offer an improved search facility, as well as a number of other research enhancements.

In the meantime, BAQ members across Queensland can register with us to take advantage of our services, which include:

• Remote access to a range of online titles and resource
• Online document delivery and research assistance (fees apply)
• After-hours access to the Brisbane Library
• Queensland Legal Updater current awareness e-newsletter

For those members located in Brisbane, the new Library in the QEII Courts of Law is well worth a visit, offering modern facilities and services:

• Extensive print and online research collection
• Public PCs with internet and access to a range of legal databases not available off-site
• Free WiFi access
• Private study rooms
• Photocopying and printing facilities
• Staff assistance and guidance in the use of resources

Practitioners in far north Queensland will also enjoy a range of modern on-site facilities and services, following the recent renovation and upgrade of the Cairns courthouse library. Internet kiosks in other regional locations provide access to our online collections, which are continuously being developed and expanded with new content. Brendon Copley, the Information Services Librarian, and his team in Brisbane are available five days a week to answer your enquiries via phone or email. 

BAQ members will also have the opportunity to attend specialised research training sessions, including Queensland Sentencing Information Service training events, in early 2014. Registration details are available on our website. Other training is available by request.
