Podcast - Sir James Killen Print E-mail

A podcast of historic live audio of  Sir James Killen (and friends) taken during Question Time in old Parliament House in 1978 may be heard by clicking on the player at the bottom of this page. Hearsay is grateful to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Tasmania (Radio) - and presenter Tim Cox for the audio grab and for permission to reproduce the  following.

Just Killen Time

Let's go back almost three decades, to Parliament House in Canberra. It is Question Time in the House of Representatives in Canberra, but also Sir James Killen's birthday.

The occasion was the then-Defence Minister's 53rd birthday, and what might have been a Dorothy Dixer from Michael Hodgman...

Cast of characters:

  • Speaker: Billy Snedden
  • Member for Denison and Minister for the ACT: Michael Hodgman
  • Member for Moreton and Minister for Defence: Jim Killen
  • Member for Robertson: Barry Cohen
  • Member for Wannon and Prime Minister: Malcolm Fraser

For those readers who may be too young to know what was likely to have been depicted in the 1979 edition of Pickering's Playmates, Hearsay suggests that you ask your parents.

Press the play button to listen to the exchange - Runtime 2:53 minutes
